Meet the Artist
Shawn Dettenmaier is a visually impaired professional illustrator.

Suffering from a rare neurological autoimmune disease, Shawn Dettenmaier is a biracial professional artist that works with only one fully functioning eye. Art creation—and the study of art—has been a solace during dark times. With inspirations as diverse as Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent Willem van Gogh and contemporary illustrator Josh Cochran, she seeks to create work that stylistically expresses her interest in storytelling, her internal struggle with her physical health/disability, and the complexities of human interaction. She is currently studying at CSUN and running The Iris Corner Store, an online store that sells high-quality prints, stickers, and phone cases of original digital art pieces. The proceeds from the store go to her charity the Make the World a Better Place Foundation, which benefits homeless families.
